A New Installation Rings Out

Davina Semo, Listener, 2024. Installation view, Powder Mountain.

Art has always had a quiet but powerful presence at Powder. From the whimsical paper airplane to the reflective, solemn bells, creativity is everywhere. And now, with the formation of the Powder Art Foundation, we’re taking that vision even further.

As part of our long-term commitment to art and culture, we’re bringing to life an open-air museum where visitors can experience site-specific installations as part of the mountain terrain. This isn’t just about placing artwork in nature, it's about letting the landscape shape the art, and the art enhance the landscape.

This season, one of the most visible and exciting additions will come from artist EJ Hill, whose vibrant, thoughtfully designed sculptural elements will be part of the newly upgraded Timberline and Lightning Ridge lifts.

While the full grand opening of the open-air museum is set for Fall 2026, including the highly anticipated debut of a new work by James Turrell, several other site-specific installations will be unveiled this season. Each piece has been chosen not only for its artistic merit, but for how it interacts with its surroundings, offering skiers, hikers, and art lovers alike a chance to engage with art in a way that feels both unexpected and deeply connected to the mountain.

Stay tuned as we take you behind the scenes with each installation in the lead-up to the season.
