This season, that call has been louder than ever as our members embraced a thrilling new era of adventure in the northeastern reaches of our resort.
Welcome to Davenport: 2,390 acres of rugged, technical terrain that has quickly become the crown jewel of our backcountry offerings. This expansive zone, complemented by the newly opened DMI area on the public side, offers a stunning variety of off-piste opportunities: sweeping alpine bowls, perfectly spaced glades, and chutes that will test even the most seasoned skier. These new additions have brought a fresh energy to the season, with many of us spending serious time exploring these backcountry havens (pun intended).
But the story of Davenport runs deeper. This terrain has a legacy dating back to 1972, when Alvin Cobabe first welcomed adventurous spirits onto his sheep ranch to experience the Wasatch in its purest form. That pioneering spirit lives on today in every powder turn, every fresh line, and every moment shared in these wild corners of the mountain.
This winter, we’ve taken backcountry access to a new level with our snowcat experience, an exhilarating way to explore untouched terrain far beyond the boundaries of traditional lifts. Cat skiing offers a guided journey through pristine powder, led by our expert team who ensure each trip is as safe as it is unforgettable. For our Powder Haven residents, it’s been a unique chance to tap into a wilder side of winter, one that’s both humbling and deeply rewarding. Reservations for snowcat tours are available to those joining us on winter real estate tours, offering both public and private options for exploring this terrain in a truly immersive way.
These new zones have also become an ideal classroom. Our Intro to Backcountry and Avalanche I courses integrated Davenport and DMI into their programming, providing real-world experience in snow safety, route finding, and terrain management. Watching attendees build confidence and sharpen their skills in such stunning surroundings has been a true highlight of the season.
And the best part? We’re just getting started. Plans are already in motion for new lift installations that will streamline access to these free-refill-guaranteed playgrounds.
